Hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity induced by aspirin

Azar Baradaran

Aspirin ingestion causes necrosis of proximal tubules and renal capillary in rats. Aspirin, at therapeutic doses, did not negatively affect renal function in patients with normal renal function. Nevertheless, aspirin should not be used in patients with glomerulonephritis. Intake of low dosage of aspirin in elderly patients caused the nephrotoxicity effects as reflected by declines in serum creatinine and uric acid clearances.
